The Sky Is Falling First Stakes Winner for Cupid

Only a month after breaking her maiden, The Sky Is Falling (2f Cupid x Miss Henny Penny, by Half Ours) helped Cupid fly to a huge milestone as his first stakes winner.

Trying stakes company for the second time in the West Virginia Triple Crown Nutrition Breeders’ Class Stakes, she put in a big performance over the 6 ½ furlongs at Charles Town with experience under her belt.

Jockey Arnaldo Bocachica had her in a ground saving position for the first half of the race as they raced in midpack over four lengths off the leader. Bocachica piloted her three wide to prepare her for a drive as they passed the three-eighths pole and the race was on.

The filly had the lead inside the final furlong with only one rival anywhere near her. She crossed the line 1 ½ lengths in front with the third placed runner over five lengths behind and the fourth place runner seven lengths behind.

It was the second win in three starts for the Cupid daughter, who is trained by Jeff Runco for David Raim.

The Sky Is Falling was bred by Catherine Jennings and Scott Mallory in West Virginia out of the stakes-placed Miss Henny Penny. That mare is also the dam of stakes winner Door Buster and stakes fourth place finisher Ocean Lilly. Miss Henny Penny is one of two stakes performers for her own dam and comes from the family of dual Grade 1 winner Super Diamond.

The Sky Is Falling is one of two stakes performers for her Grade I winning sire in a week after Desert Dawn finished a good third in the Grade II Chandelier Stakes last week.
