Unbeaten Gleneagles Filly Completes Classic Double
Shavasana (3f Gleneagles - So Many Shots, by Duke Of Marmalade) maintained a perfect record when making a successful step up in trip in the Group 2 Oaks d’Italia at San Siro.
Successful on all of her three juvenile starts, including one at Listed level, the Stefano Botti-trained chesnut ran out a stylish winner of the Italian 1,000 Guineas on her seasonal return last month. Hollie Doyle travelled over for the ride on Sunday and rode the Yoshida Katsumi-owned filly to make all, racing three lengths clear at halfway. Ridden from two furlongs out, Shavasana ran on gamely to prevail by half a length on the line, as the favourite View Zabeel (Saxon Warrior) did her best to narrow the gap. French raider Maylin (Footstepsinthesand) took third, while Italian 1,000 Guineas runner-up Estrosa (Sioux Nation) finished fourth.
Shavasana becomes the first filly since Cherry Collect in 2012 to complete the Classic double. The daughter of Gleneagles was bred by Razza Del Velino and is closely related to Stakes performer Sidney Pearl (Australia).
