Point Lonsdale (Australia) Lands The Group 2 Futurity Stakes at the Curragh

Unbeaten Son Of Australia Impresses In Futurity Stakes

The exciting Point Lonsdale (2c Australia - Sweepstake, by Acclamation) extended his unbeaten record to four when leading home a 1-2-3 for Coolmore sires in the Group 2 Futurity Stakes at the Curragh.

Sent off favourite under Ryan Moore, the 108-rated bay made all of the running and was pushed along to go clear approaching the final furlong. He scored by four and a quarter lengths in fine style, as Maritime Wings (Gleneagles) chased him home, as he had done in last month’s Group 3 Tyros Stakes. Unconquerable (Churchill) continued a successful day for his freshman sire by claiming third.

After the race, O’Brien could find no fault with the winner, saying, “Point Lonsdale is a lovely straightforward horse. He relaxes, he quickens and his head goes down when you ask him. He wants good ground, he's a lovely mover, and he'll be back here for the National Stakes next month.”

Thursday marked a third Stakes success for Point Lonsdale, who announced his talent with an impressive debut victory at the Curragh in June. Bred by Epona Bloodstock, the own-brother to Broome (Australia) is owned by Derrick Smith, Mrs John Magnier, Michael Tabor and Westerberg.
