Well-Bred Australia Colt Gains Deserved Maiden Success

Convict (2c Australia - Tweed, by Sakhee) enjoyed a change in fortune when justifying favoritism in Wednesday’s seven furlong maiden at Redcar.

The William Haggas-trained colt suffered bad luck last time out at York where his jockey lost his irons and soon lost his position. Danny Tudhope returned for redemption and rode the chesnut to track the leaders, pushing along from two furlongs out and led a furlong later. Ridden out, the colt stayed on well to justify favoritism by two and a quarter lengths from promising newcomer Bright Eyed Eagle (Gleneagles).

Owned by B Haggas and bred by JB Haggas, Convict is a half-brother to the highly-rated stayer Hamish. Their dam is a winning full-sister to Listed scorer Vow, and is a half-sister to Australian Group 1 winner Beaten Up.
