Well-Bred Son Of Australia Impresses On Debut

The future looks bright for Adelaide River (2c Australia - Could It Be Love, by War Front) after running out a commanding winner on debut on Monday.

The Aidan O’Brien-trained colt was sent off second favourite for the mile maiden and was ridden to chase the leader by Wayne Lordan. Leading after the two furlong pole, he was ridden approaching the final furlong and ran on well to score by two lengths and three quarters.

“Adelaide River is a lovely colt,” Lordan said after the race. “He always showed a bit at home. He was always the lazy one as well. He went down past the two furlong pole well and went forward nice pricking his ears, he had plenty left.”

Owned by Mrs John Magnier, Michael Tabor, Derrick Smith and Westerberg, Adelaide River holds entries in three upcoming Group 2 contests, as well as the 2023 Epsom Derby. The son of Australia is the first foal bred by Coolmore out of Irish 1,000 Guineas runner-up Could It Be Love (War Front), herself a half-sister to top-class sire Uncle Mo.
