Well Regarded Saxon Warrior Colt Gets Off The Mark In Style

Sardinian Warrior (3c Saxon Warrior – La Collina, by Strategic Prince) justified some notable entries when running out a commanding winner at Southwell on Sunday.

John and Thady Gosden’s charge finished a promising second when slowly away on debut in December and was sent off favourite to go one better in the novice stakes over a mile. Ridden prominently by Kieran Shoemark, the bay improved to lead before two furlongs out and kept on well to score by four and a half lengths.

“Sardinian Warrior did everything I expected of him,” Shoemark commented after the race. “He was in front a long way from home, he was still green and he possibly got tired. I always knew he was going to come on for today so that was very encouraging.”

A step up in class may now be on the cards for the Marc Chan-owned Sardinian Warrior, who holds entries in the Group 2 Dante Stakes and Epsom Derby. The son of Saxon Warrior was sold by breeder Kenilworth House Stud as a foal for 200,000gns.
