Wootton Bassett Cleansweep of Juveniles Races At Longchamp
Zabiari (2c Wootton Bassett - Zaridiya, by Duke Of Marmalade) produced a smart debut performance to complete the first leg of a quickfire double for Wootton Bassett at Longchamp.
Jean-Claude Rouget’s newcomer was sent off favourite for the six and a half furlong contest and raced towards the back of the field in the early stages. Pushed along approaching the turn for home, he showed a smart turn of foot from two furlongs out and ran on strongly to lead a furlong later. Ridden out by Cristian Demuro, he led by a length and a half on the line.
Owned and bred by H.H. Aga Khan, Zabiari hails from the family of Zarkava.
Jean-Claude Rouget won the following fillies’ equivalent with another well-supported newcomer in Voodoo Magic (2f Wootton Bassett - Fille Du Septembre, by Choisir).
Sent off favourite under Coralie Pacaut, she raced in midfield for much of the way and was last off the bridle two furlongs from home. Pushed along to lead soon after, she ran on well to win by a length and a quarter.
Voodoo Magic is owned by Sarl Ecurie JL Tepper and was bred by La Motteraye with Gerald L Ferron. She becomes the first winner out of useful two-year-old Fille Du Septembre.
