80,000 euros Scorpion on top at Tatts

A three-year-old from Scorpion’s second crop became the dearest horse to sell at Tattersalls Ireland’s August Sale for three years when making 80,000 euros on Tuesday.

The Christopher Maye-bred gelding, out of the Mujtahid mare Sapphire Eile, is a sibling to cross-country star Another Jewel and hails from the family of legendary hurdler Istabraq.

He was knocked down to Aiden Murphy, who prevailed in a duel with agent Mags O’Toole for the son of Scorpion.

“He’s a very good-looking sort and he would have stood his ground in any Derby Sale. He’s been bought for a client and he’ll be staying in Ireland,” Murphy told the Racing Post.
