Vinnie Roe who stands under the Coolmore N.H. banner at Grange Stud has enjoyed a productive week with three new winners. At Limerick on Sunday, Roving Lad, bred by John Dorgan won a handicap hurdle in good style for Paul John Gilligan. He could reappear at Sligo on Wednesday under a penalty and the Racing Post reported that “he should have a profitable summer”.
On Friday at Aintree, Vinnie My Boy, a 4-year-old bred by Mrs Kathleen and James Wickham won the bumper by 4 lengths for Peter Bowen and looks a nice sort for next season.
However the best of the trio may well turn out to be the Dermot Weld-trained Show Court. He landed a 3-year-old maiden at Leopardstown by 6½ lengths from a well-regarded pair from the John Oxx stable. “Show Court is a nice type who should develop into a useful dual purpose horse later in the year,” said Weld of the winner.
