German raider Distain (5m Champs Elysees-Market Forces, by Lomitas) continued an excellent weekend for Champs Elysees when securing a G3 success in Milan on Sunday.
Distain bore down on front-running Alambra in the closing stages of the 1m 2f G3 Premio Verziere and came out two and a half lengths clear of that opponent.
Cristian Demuro was in the saddle and commented: “Alambra was clear in front, but I know Distain, she is a strong mare with plenty of stamina and I was pretty confident I’d win”.
The Juddmonte-bred, who provided big-race success for young German trainer Sarah Steinberg, had been bought for 68,000gns at the 2015 Tattersalls Autumn Horses In Training Sale.
She was winning the day after another Juddmonte-bred, Withhold (4g Champs Elysees-Coming Back, by Fantastic Light), had won the 34-runner Cesarewitch to land a huge gamble in the style of a top-class stayer.
