Vinnie bags Cork G3

Our Vinnie (5g Vinnie Roe-Boopsey, by Old Vic) brought a Graded success for Vinnie Roe at Cork on Sunday when running out a well-backed winner of the G3 Paddy Power Novice Hurdle.

The five-year-old won a Naas bumper in January and after this success trainer Charles Byrnes is now dreaming of a trip to the 2013 Cheltenham Festival for the G1 Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle.

“He stuck at it well and all he does is stay,” Byrnes told irishracing.com “It wasn’t the plan to make the running but he had no choice. He will stick to staying novice hurdles now and the dream would be to go for the Albert Bartlett at Cheltenham in March. He will have to improve a lot from today. The ground was plenty heavy for him and he will be better on better ground. Today was a good pot to win and we have no immediate plans for him now.”

Our Vinnie, who was bred by Pat McCreevey, comes from the first crop of Vinnie Roe. The exciting sire was also responsible for impressive recent bumper winner Elegant Statesman (4g Vinnie Roe-Queen Astrid, by Revoque), who scored at Cork on his debut under Rules.
