$1.6 Million Uncle Mo Colt Leads Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Session
Uncle Mo led the first session of the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Sale on Monday night when West Bloodstock won a bidding war for a colt out of Dame Dorothy when the hammer came down at $1.6 million.
The colt was purchased for Robert and Lawana Low from the Stone Farm draft on behalf of breeder Bobby Flay Thoroughbreds. The colt is the third foal out of Grade I winner Dame Dorothy, whose first foal is the Grade III winner and Grade II-placed Spice Is Nice.
Dame Dorothy herself is also a half-sister to Group I winner Mrs. Lindsay, who is the dam of multiple stakes winner and Group I-placed Mr. Owen and stakes placed Sunday Mirage. There is class throughout the family with his fourth dam the stakes winner Mrs. Jenney, who is the dam of Grade I winner Unaccounted For and this colt’s stakes winning third dam A Votre Sante among others.
In what proved to be a strong session for the top sire, Uncle Mo also had a $700,000 filly purchased by C. Martin for Blue Devil Racing Stable.
Consigned by Denali Stud, the filly is the first foal out of Pioneerof the Nile mare Dreaming of You. That mare is a half-sister to multiple Grade II winner Justwhistledixie and to Grade II winner Chace City. Justwhistledixie is the dam of Grade I winner New Year’s Day, Grade II winner Mohaymen, and Grade III winners Enforceable and Kingly.
Named Dreaming of Mo, the filly was bred by Phoenix Thoroughbreds and is bred similarly to Grade I winner Outwork and stakes-placed Follow No One, who are both out of Empire Maker mares.
Dreaming of You had a Justify colt this year.
Uncle Mo’s third most expensive of the session also came from Denali Stud. Purchased for $525,000 by Twin Creeks Racing, the colt is out of a half-sister to Grade II winner Commissioner and Grade III winner Laugh Track. The colt’s dam Covenant is also a half-sister to the dam of champion and dual Grade I winner Vino Rosso.
Uncle Mo’s six sold on Monday night averaged an impressive $605,833 with a median of $442,500. The top sire and emerging sire-of-sires has seven more to sell on Tuesday.
