€1 Million Justify Colt Breaks Maiden at York
Justify’s popular Angelo Buonarroti (2c Justify x Curlylocks, by Galileo) got off the mark on Friday with a victory in the maiden stakes at York in his second start.
Eager to get the race started, he was keen to run under David Egan in the seven-furlong turf race and took a prominent position in the run. Leading into the final quarter of the race, he was asked for more by Egan soon after and motored to a 1 ¼ length win at the line.
It was the second start for the Ralph Beckett trainee, who races for Amo Racing. His owners paid €1 million for the colt earlier this year from the Arqana May 2-Year-Old Breeze Up Sale after the Coolmore-bred colt had originally sold at the Keeneland September Yearling Sale.
Angelo Buonarroti is out of the Galileo mare Curlylocks, who is a full sister to multiple champions Churchill and Clemmie and Group III winner Blenheim Place out of Broodmare of the Year Meow. This isn’t the only successful Justify runner out of a Meow daughter with Clemmie producing his stakes winner Unless.
Curlylocks had a filly by champion Epicenter this year.
The victory came just two days after Justify’s champion son City of Troy added another Group I to his record in the Juddmonte International.
