$140,000 for Declaration of War Colt
War Front’s dual Group I winning son Declaration of War made a good impression at the 2016 Inglis Australian Weanling Sale on Sunday providing the second highest priced colt of the sale.
Consigned for sale by Rothwell Park Thoroughbreds as agent, the colt from imported stakes-winning Sadler's Wells mare In the Limelight made $140,000 to the bid of renowned pinhookers Ampulla Lodge/ Ascot Farm.
“I really liked his walk. He is mature, good bodied, a great shoulder, plenty of muscle over his back and a great walker, with a great attitude,” Steve Jostlear of Ampulla Lodge told ANZ Bloodstock News.
“He was out a lot and his attitude was just simply superb. When you spoke to the staff at Rothwell, they said the same. His attitude was just out of this world and that’s what you need if you want to get them ready for a yearling sale.”
Declaration of War also had a filly from US import Senseless War sell for $90,000, a colt from another US import in Love All sell for $70,000 and a filly from Operetta Lass that made $65,000.
He had nine weanlings offered in the premium Platinum Session and all were sold at an average $50,111, comfortably higher than the sale average of $42,449.
“I believe Scott Irwin (Rothwell Park) has been very keen on this colt (In The Limelight) from an early stage,” said Jim Carey, Stud Manager, Coolmore Australia.
“I saw him at Rothwell a few months ago and he was a grand horse - he really filled the eye. He's kept on improving and is a big, strong, mature looking horse that seemed to be on everyone's short list.
“It's great to see the market react so positively to the Declaration Of War's. We have a very good opinion of him based on what we have on the farm by him and to come to the sale and to see a number of nice horses by him sell very well is encouraging.”
Declaration of War returns to Australia this spring at the fee of $16,500.
