$325,000 Classic Empire Colt Kicks Off Successful Day
One of two Classic Empire colts to sell for more than $300,000 on Wednesday, Hip 174 kicked off Classic Empire’s successful day by bringing $325,000 from Ben McElroy for KSI during the opening session of the Fasig-Tipton Selected Yearlings Showcase.
Consigned by Scott Mallory, the Tori Gladwell and E.V.S. Corp-bred chestnut is out of Just Parker. That mare is a half-sister to two stakes winners from the family of Grade I winner Mitterand. This is also the family of Grade II winner and sire Old Fashioned and Grade I-placed Ginger Pop.
It was a strong first day of selling at Fasig-Tipton for Classic Empire with his four sold averaging $191,875, selling for a median of $187,500.
Classic Empire’s first foals have been well received at the sales over the last 10 months with the royally bred Champion 2-Year-Old also the winner of the Grade I Arkansas Derby and second in the Grade I Preakness Stakes.
