$3million Sale-Topper for Scat Daddy
The loss of outstanding sire Scat Daddy was highlighted at the 2016 Keeneland September Yearling Sale when his star colt from Leslie’s Lady topped Book One on Wednesday when selling for $3million to MV Magnier.
Coolmore stood Scat Daddy at Ashford Stud until his premature death in December last year and now stand his Grade I winning son No Nay Never at their base in Ireland.
Scat Daddy is also the sire of the Coolmore owned Caravaggio, who is an undefeated juvenile Grade I winner this year.
Consigned for sale by Clarkland Farm, the $3million colt is a half-brother to Champion Mare and $4.7 million earner Beholder and Grade I winner and sire Into Mischief.
“He’s by Scat Daddy and he is a [half] brother to an exceptional race filly [in Beholder]. You won’t see much better than her,” said Magnier, who added that the colt would go to Europe.
“He is a very good mover, very good looking, very good family.
“We’ve had a lot of luck with Scat Daddy in the past and hopefully it will continue. Caravaggio looks like he could be an exceptional horse. He’s so fast. He’s also the sire of Lady Aurelia, too.
“The two of them look like they could be the best two 2-year-olds in Europe. Anything with Scat Daddy, you have to pay a lot of attention to. No Nay Never was an exceptionally good 2-year old. This horse is a half-brother to two horses that were exceptionally good 2-year-olds. Hopefully he will do the same.”
No Nay Never has foals on the ground in Ireland and is currently in Australia where he is proving popular.
“This colt has massive stallion potential,” Magnier added.
“The way No Nay Never is making his foals, he could be another Scat Daddy. With Caravaggio on the way now as well, he could be another one.”
