$425,000 Duo Lead Way For Mo During Saturday Session

A pair of $425,000 yearlings led the way for Uncle Mo during Saturday’s session of the Keeneland September Yearling Sale.

Purchased by Farm Ridge from Stonehaven Steadings, a filly out of Miz Kella was his first to the price tag as Hip 1179. Out of a full sister to champion Shanghai Bobby, she is a half-sister to Canoodling and one other winner from two to race. The filly’s dam Miz Kella is out of stakes winner Steelin, whose own dam is a full sister to Grade I winner and stakes producer City Band.

This family also includes Grade II winner Freedom Child and Grade III winner American Lion among others.

Stonehaven Steadings has had an excellent sale with yearlings sired by Coolmore America stallions – five of their top six priced offerings are by the group, led by a $1.55 million Justify colt.

Consigned by Taylor Made Sales, Uncle Mo’s $425,000 colt was purchased by Whitehorse, Madaket, e Five Racing, and Augustin.

He is the first for Grade III winner Sassy Sienna, who is also a half-sister to Grade III-placed Newton John and stakes-placed runners Spina and Ruth and Neva.

Bred by WinStar Farm and China Horse Club, the colt’s third dam is Grade II winner and multiple Grade I-placed Golden Reef, whose runners include two stakes winners. The mare’s daughters have also produced four stakes winners, led by stakes winner and Group II-placed Cool Chap.

Uncle Mo’s other yearlings during the fifth session sold for $250,000, $210,000, etc. with Madaket also involved in the $250,000 filly. In all, after five sessions, Uncle Mo’s 44 sold have averaged $308,795 with a median of $250,000 topped by a $1.1 million filly.
