$500,000 Filly Leads Justify Offerings at Fasig-Tipton
Justify offerings were the subjects of multiple bidding wars this week at the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic 2-Year-Olds In Training Sale, led by a $500,000 filly purchased by Case Clay Thoroughbreds.
Offered by SGV Thoroughbreds, the filly is the second foal out of the Puerto Rican Horse of the Year Mia Karina. This was the third time through the ring for the Petaluma Bloodstock-bred, who saw her price go up every time she was offered.
Mia Karina is out of the stakes placed Tabadabado, who is a half-sister to the dam of Grade I-placed City Bian and a granddaughter of the champion Taba. Taba produced multiple Grade I winner Turkoman and stakes winner Slow Fuse among her three stakes performers and multiple stakes producers.
A $425,000 colt out of Weekend Strike was purchased by Pedro Laz, as agent for Kas Stables.
The Harley/De Renzo Thoroughbreds consignee is a half-brother to the Group III winning Galileo filly Sizzling. Their stakes placed dam is the dam of six winners from eight to race overall as a full sister Grade III winner Smart Surprise and half-sister to four-time Grade I winner Court Vision among the six stakes performing siblings out of her dam Weekend Storm.
This page gets even deeper under the third dam with Weekend Storm a full sister to Grade I Preakness Stakes winner Summer Squall and Horse of the Year A.P. Indy among others.
Bred by Newstead Corp, the colt had a half-brother by Uncle Mo born on January 27.
Justify’s 10 juveniles sold in 2024 have averaged $731,360 with a median of $550,000, led by a colt selling for €2,300,000.
