$525,000 for Lone Galileo
Just one yearling by champion European sire Galileo was offered at the 2011 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Selected Yearling Sale.
Consigned by Lane’s End, the colt from Egyptian Queen, a half-sister to Grade II winner AP Warrior, was snapped up by Robert LaPenta for $525,000.
“It is a very European pedigree, which we found appealing,” said Robert LaPenta’s Bloodstock Manager, Ernie Reichard.
“Following what has been happening in racing so far this season, with the European breeding influence in this year’s Triple Crown with Animal Kingdom and Leroidesanimaux, we decided to take a chance on this colt.”
Galileo is taking all before him this year with eight Grade I winners worldwide including Cape Blanco in the US.
“He is by a European sire, but there is a lot of American influence on the bottom side, so there appears to be a lot of potential for dirt as well in there,” explained Reichard. “We’re hoping for a Classic horse.”
