Air Force Blue Strikes Again At Keeneland With Guana Cay
Less than 24 hours after his first Keeneland winner, Air Force Blue saw Guana Cay (2f Air Force Blue x Winding Bay, by Malibu Moon) visit the track’s winner’s circle on Saturday.
Racing in a Maiden Special Weight over 1 1/16 miles on the Keeneland dirt for trainer Wesley Ward and owner and co-breeder Kent Spellman, Guana Cay broke on top to duel briefly for the lead. Settling in for the run by the first turn, Guana Cay raced a few lengths behind the leader down the backstretch.
Hemmed in between horses as they turned into the stretch, Guana Cay had to search for room to make her run. It came in the final sixteenth with the filly sticking her head in front close to the line to win by a neck.
The eighth winner for Air Force Blue, Guana Cay was finishing in the top three for the third time in her four start career. Co-bred by Ward and Spellman, the filly is a granddaughter of Grade I winner Cat Moves from the family of Grade I winner Roadster and Ward’s Grade I Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf winner Hootenanny.
European Champion 2-Year-Old Air Force Blue is among the best of his class with his eight winners including multiple stakes-placed Chief Little Hawk.
