Amends A Runaway Winner For Uncle Mo
It was another 2-year-old winner for the brilliant Uncle Mo on Sunday when Phipps Stable homebred Amends (2c Uncle Mo x Guilty Verdict, by Medaglia d’Oro) closed out the Belmont meet in style.
Settling in midpack under jockey Joel Rosario during the early running of the 1 1/16 mile race on dirt, he bided his time as the leaders pulled away from the rest of the field. In the turn, Amends showed an impressive turn of foot to catch the leaders and flew past them on the sloppy track to romp home by 4 ¼ lengths.
Trained by Shug McGaughey, Amends is the second foal from Champion Smuggler’s placed daughter Guilty Verdict.
Amends is the latest in a top-class group of winning two-year-olds for Uncle Mo this year that includes two-time Grade 1 winner Bast, who is set to make her next start in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies on Friday.
