Aussie Stakes-Winner for Tale of the Cat
Speedy entire Whittington (4h Tale of the Cat x Maha Chakri, by Beautiful Crown) added another feature race win to his resume when capturing the Listed BRC Lightning Handicap at Doomben on Saturday.
Now prepared by John Thompson, Whittington zoomed home from last to win the 1050 metre sprint by a dominant two lengths, his overall record now four wins from 17 starts with prizemoney nearing $390,000.
Whittington was originally a $145,000 Magic Millions purchase for Denise Martin of Star Thoroughbreds from the draft of Patinack Farm, but was purchased by his current owners from the Magic Millions Summer Thoroughbred Sale for $100,000.
He is the second foal of stakes-winning Beautiful Crown mare Maha Chakri, who won the Listed Tasmanian Oaks.
A stakes-winner on debut as a two year-old when he won the Listed ATC Breeders Plate, Whittington is one of 98 stakes-winners worldwide for accomplished shuttler Tale of the Cat, who visited the Southern Hemisphere for Coolmore for a good number of years and is now at age 21 based permanently in Kentucky.
