Beverly Park Keeps 2021 Record Perfect at Churchill
Munnings' son Beverly Park (4c Munnings x Madeira Park, by Langfuhr) kept his 2021 record perfect on Thursday when the colt won a Churchill Downs Allowance by 5 ½ lengths.
Racing over 5 ½ furlongs on the dirt, Beverly Park played a game of cat and mouse with the early leader. Letting that one get comfortable up front, Beverly Park bided his time before pouncing at the half mile pole and was well in-hand as he pulled away.
Jockey John McKee asked him for a little more in the stretch and he responded to have six lengths on the field going into the final furlong. Eased down in the end, Beverly Park scored by 5 ½ lengths for his eighth victory in eight 2021 starts.
Trained and co-owned by Norman Cash with Lola Cash, the 4-year-old is the winner of nine of his 15 career starts.
He was bred by Ray Hanson and George Gilbert before being sold for $220,000 as a yearling at the 2018 Keeneland September Yearling Sale by Penn Sales.
A half-brother to stakes-place Hartel, he is out of the Grade III winner Madeira Park. That mare is a full sister to the stakes winning dam of multiple graded stakes winner Blended Citizen, Lookin At Lucky’s multiple stakes winner and Grade I Kentucky Derby second Lookin At Lee, and the stakes winning Battlefield Angel, who produced stakes winner Manny Wah.
Madeira Park also has a yearling colt by Lookin At Lucky.
