Bishops Bay A ‘Rising Star’ For Uncle Mo
Bishops Bay (3c Uncle Mo x Catch My Drift, by Pioneerof the Nile) earned Thoroughbred Daily News ‘Rising Star’ honors on Sunday with an Allowance Optional Claiming victory at the Fair Grounds.
Racing a little over a mile on the dirt, the colt clipped heels with the leader early before taking up a position just a length behind that runner in second around the track. As they entered the far turn, the Uncle Mo son engaged the pacesetter in a duel and came out ahead as that one faded late in the stretch.
Another runner flew up outside the winner by Bishops Bay proved to be a neck the best with the rest of the field four lengths behind.
A $450,000 purchase by the BSW/Crow Colts Group as a yearling for Spendthrift Farm, Steve Landers Racing, Martin Schwartz, Michael Dubb, Ten Strike Racing, Jim Bakke, Titletown Racing, Kueber Racing, Big Easy Racing, Winners Win, Michael Caruso and breeder and co-owner WinStar Farm, Bishops Bay is trained by Brad Cox.
Out of the stakes winner and Grade I-placed Catch My Drift, Bishops Bay is a half-brother to the multiple stakes placed Strava. The Uncle Mo x Pioneerof the Nile cross Bishops Bay is bred on is the same cross as recent Grade I winner A Mo Reay.
Bishops Bay is the 14th TDN Rising Star for Uncle Mo with that group including his studmate and Grade I winner Mo Town.
