Brisbane Cup Winner for Tale of the Cat
A Listed winner in New Zealand last year, tough Australian bred stayer Benzini (6g Tale of the Cat x Paris Perfume, by Kurofone) scored a career best win when taking out the Group II BRC Brisbane Cup at Eagle Farm on Saturday.
Trained in New Zealand by Adrian and Harry Bull, Benzini was ridden by regular partner Rosie Myers who brought the gelding home with a well-timed run to win the 2400 metre feature by a neck.
Co-trainer Harry Bull said he was encouraged by his third place finish in the Group III Premier’s Cup (2200m) at Doomben last month.
"They weren’t coming from the back that day but he worked home really well,” Harry Bull said.
"He’s been really good since and this is a huge thrill.”
A $25,000 Magic Millions National Yearling Sale purchase for Beamish Bloodstock from the draft of Emirates Park, Benzini is the only winner from Paris Perfume, an unraced half-sister to Group I winner Hot Snitzel from an international family featuring Group I stars such as Park Appeal and Cape Cross.
Benzini has the overall record of 11 wins and nine placings from 38 starts with prizemoney of $463,476.
