Camelot Colt Strengthens Classic Claims On Reappearance

The highly-rated Deira Mile (3c Camelot – Fastnet Mist, by Fastnet Rock) made an impressive return to action at Windsor on Monday evening.

The Owen Burrows-trained colt was last seen finishing fourth in the Group 1 Futurity Trophy and was sent off a short-priced favourite on his seasonal return. Racing over ten furlongs, the 109-rated colt was ridden in touch with the leaders by Jim Crowley and made smooth headway approaching the two furlong marker. Leading a furlong later, he ran on well inside the final furlong to win by four lengths, with another 12 lengths back to the third horse.

A return to Stakes company is presumably next on the agenda for Deira Mile, who holds entries in the 2,000 Guineas, Dante Stakes, Epsom Derby and Irish Derby. Owned by Green Team Racing, the son of Camelot was bred by Churchtown House Stud out of the black-type Fastnet Rock mare Fastnet Mist.
