Camelot Colt Strides Clear To Maiden Victory

The promising Rosso (3c Camelot – Egyptian Sky, by Fastnet Rock) justified strong market support to get off the mark in Monday’s mile-and-a-half maiden at Roscommon.

Joseph O’Brien’s charge had run well on his previous starts, most recently when finishing second over Monday’s trip at the Curragh, and was sent off favourite to go one better at Roscommon. Racing prominently throughout under Declan McDonogh, the bay was switched right approaching the two furlong pole and led soon after. He was ridden clear to score by two lengths and three quarters, with another four and a half lengths back to the third horse.

“He's a nice big horse,” McDonogh commented. “I don't think he likes the ground as holding as it is. He's progressive and could go forward again. I like him, he has a good attitude and relaxed very well.”

The son of Camelot is owned by Lloyd Williams and was bred by Barronstown Stud.
