Caravaggio Trio On Offer at OBS

A week after having a session topper at Tattersalls, Caravaggio is back with three offerings at the OBS Spring Sale of Two-Year-Olds In Training, kicking off on Tuesday.

His first through the ring is Hip 37 from Niall Brennan Stables, a colt out of the Footstepsinthesand mare Positive Step. Also the dam of Grade II-placed Broken Stones and stakes placed Usra, Positive Step also saw her 3-year-old Gleneagles colt win last year at two with that colt also recently placing only a week before his 4-year-old half sister added another placing to her record. Bred by Highpark Bloodstock in Ireland, the colt was a €170,000 purchase as a weanling.

Hip 227 from Top Line Sales is a March-born gray colt out of a half-sister to stakes-placed Astarte. The first foal out of the winning Hard Spun mare Spindrift, this offering’s granddam is a three-quarter sister to Grade I winner and successful sire Sky Mesa from the family of the Grade I winner Maxfield. Bred in France by Thierry Storme and Thierry Lohest, the colt was a €120,000 weanling at Arqana in 2019.

Caravaggio’s final through the ring was also his fastest breezer, with Hip 1000 stopping the clock in :10.0. Offered by Wavertree Stables, the Irish-bred bay colt is out of a Galileo mare just like his Tattersalls’ session topper. The colt’s winning dam Lap of Luxury is a half-sister to Group I winner Dutch Art and a full sister to multiple group winner Up, who also produced the Group I-placed American Pharoah colt Monarch of Egypt and the dam of Group II-placed Direct.

Standing his first season in Kentucky this year, Caravaggio has seen his first crop hit the track running with a winner and Royal Ascot hopeful from only a few runners.
