Caravaggio’s Tiber Flow Stays Undefeated In England
Jon and Julia Aisbitt’s homebred Tiber Flow (3c Caravaggio x Malabar, by Raven’s Pass) stayed undefeated on Saturday with a victory at Southwell in England.
Racing over seven furlongs on the all weather surface, the gray colt broke slowly and took up the last place position as he waited for his chance to strike. Jockey Stevie Donohoe moved him closer to the front as they entered the final half of the race and with just over a furlong left, he was right behind the leader.
Though the margin of victory was only half a length, it was deceivingly small with Tiber Flow having plenty left in the tank. Only one horse was within seven lengths of him at the end with the fourth-place runner over 15 lengths back.
Trained by William Haggas, Tiber Flow is now the winner of three races from three starts dating back to his debut in December.
Tiber Flow is the only named foal out of the dual Grade III winner Malabar, who also finished fourth in three different Group I events. She is a half-sister to champion Poet’s Word and to the dam of Group II winner and multiple Group I-placed Beckford.
Malabar also has a Saxon Warrior colt named Godwinson to represent her in juvenile races this season.
Caravaggio’s 33 Northern Hemisphere winners is tied with Gun Runner for the best of all second crop stallions. He is also the sire of eight stakes performers and four stakes winners, led by Group I winner Tenebrism.
