Champion Corniche Sees Seven In-Foal Mares at Keeneland January

Seven mares carrying foals from Champion 2-Year-Old Colt Corniche’s first crop are set to go through the ring next week at the Keeneland January Horses of All Ages Sale.

The first mare in foal to the stallion is Hip 170 offered by Hill ‘n’ Dale at Xalapa on Monday. An Uncle Mo mare whose first foal was placed, Tasty Tears is a half-sister to the stakes placer and stakes producing Wanna Win.

Tasty Tears’ dam Gentle Jazz is a half-sister to Canadian champion Kimchi and two other stakes performers with their dam Alljazz producing seven winner in 10 runners. Kimchi produced the stakes winning Driven For Success while a winning half-sister named Yong Musician is the dam of champion Kingdom Road and Grade III-placed Co Cola. That mare is the dam of Grade I winner Search Results. Alljazz is also the granddam of multiple Grade I winner Mind Your Biscuits.

Pregnant to Corniche on a March 27 cover, stakes winner and multiple graded stakes placed Miss Chatelaine is the dam of one placed runner from one to run and sells as Hip 434.

Offered by Brookdale Sales as agent for Highland Yard, Miss Chatelaine is a half-sister to Grade III winner Big Bend and Grade III-placed Taralena in addition to the dam of the stakes placed Madrugador. Their dam is the stakes winning Lenatareese, who is one of three stakes performers out of the stakes-placed Eubee.

Chaybaby sells as Hip 669 from the Four Star Sales consignment as the dam of one winner and one placer from two starters.

Placed on the track, the Curlin mare is a half-sister to stakes winner Diamonds R and out of the stakes winning Epitome of a Lady. The mare’s third dam is the dam of Grade III winner and Grade I-placed Above Perfection, who has proven that their family is full of stakes producers. Above Perfection is the dam of multiple Grade I winner Always Dreaming, Grade I winner Hot Dixie Chick, and Grade II winner Positive Spirit.

Hot Dixie Chick’s runners also include the Grade I winning Pauline’s Pearl and two other stakes performers. They are two of five stakes performers named on the page with each of Chaybaby’s three dams named on the page producing at least one stakes winner.

Consigned by Hill ‘n’ Dale at Xalapa as Hip 1127 is the placed Malibu Moon mare Lunar Affair.

The dam of one runner from one foal of racing age, Lunar Affair herself is out of the stakes placed Magical Affair, who has produced four winners from six to race. Lunar Affair’s successful family means that her page only includes two dams with those named including multiple graded stakes winner and Grade I-placed Tiz The Bomb. Those under her third dam include European champion Gay Gallanta among others with her fourth dam being the successful broodmare Gay Missile.

All but one of Corniche’s Keeneland January offerings sell during Book 1 with his final offering selling on Thursday, January 11.
