Champion Maximum Security Wins $20 Million Saudi Cup
Champion 3-Year-Old Maximum Security added another major win to his resume in his 2020 debut with an exciting victory in the inaugural $20-million Saudi Cup at King Abdulaziz Racecourse.
Sitting in second a few paths off the rail as the field turned into the stretch, Maximum Security was more than eager to chase down Mucho Gusto when regular jockey Luis Saez turned him loose.
Running down the center of the track, the talented colt was quickly on the leader’s heels with a furlong and a half left to run and searching for a way by. As Mucho Gusto drifted out, Luis Saez changed course to the inside and have gave Maximum Security the perfect chance to win the race. Showing the outstanding talent that has won him three Grade Is, Maximum Security took full advantage and quickly drew even with the leader.
In the final half furlong, Maximum Security took over the lead and held off all challengers to win by three quarters of a length for his ninth win in 11 starts and fifth in a row for trainer Jason Servis.
"It was a very impressive show today," said Saez. "That's what the world was waiting for and we did it. He's amazing and has a big heart."
Bred by Gary and Mary West, who own Maximum Security with the Coolmore partners, Maximum Security is out of a half-sister to three-time Grade I winner Flat Out and Listed winner Our Best Man.
Last year’s Champion 3-Year-Old, Maximum Security is scheduled to join the Coolmore America roster at the conclusion of his career.
