Classic campaign for latest Declaration Of War winner
An 11-length victory at Haydock on Saturday by Proschema (3c Declaration Of War-Notable, by Zafonic) booked the Declaration Of War colt a ticket to the G2 Dante Stakes at York next month.
The exciting three-year-old, who has won both his starts this season for trainer Tom Dascombe, has an entry in the G1 Derby which he could take up if shining in the top trial at York.
“We always thought Proschema was quite good… he's done nothing wrong this year,” said Dascombe. “He's going the right way, he's in the Dante and we'll probably have to run him, won't we? We were wrong at the weights today but we thought he was alright. It’s exciting.”
Meanwhile, another Declaration Of War three-year-old with a Classic campaign in mind is the Dean Ivory-trained Eirene (3f Declaration Of War-Za Za Zoom, by Le Vie Dei Colori).
In this week’s Racing Post Weekender, Ivory said: “She could be a high-class filly. She has a fantastic pedigree, as I’m quite a fan of her sire Declaration Of War…. We’ll go for the French Guineas (G1 Poule d’Essai des Pouliches) next as the flat Longchamp straight could be ideal and the way they race could suit her turn of foot more. I’m thrilled with how she’s learned to switch off and I’m vey hopeful of a big season for her.”
