Classicstateofmind Blows Away Competition in Maiden Victory
Classicstateofmind (2c Classic Empire x Stormandaprayer, by Songandaprayer) became the 18th winner for his sire on Wednesday with a maiden victory at Gulfstream Park.
Making his third start, the Kent Sweezey trainee went straight to the lead in the five furlong turf race and never looked back. He keep at least half a length on the field at every call with Paco Lopez saving the best for last.
Asking Classicstateofmind for just a little more, the colt drew off in the stretch to win by 5 ½ lengths for Martiza Weston, Troy Johnson, and JFG Thoroughbreds.
Bred by Lakland Farm, Classicstateofmind is one of five winners from five to race out of stakes-placed and Grade I fourth Stormandaprayer with the group led by Grade III-placed Harland’s Thunder.
Stormandaprayer is one of two stakes performers for Grade I winner Stormy Pick, who is also the grandam of multiple stakes winner Net Gain and stakes winners Kram and Cat Five’ O.
Classic Empire is a top 10 freshman sire, sitting in third place by stakes performers, fourth place by earnings, fifth by stakes winners, and eighth place by winners.
