Classicstateofmind Fifth Stakes Winner for Classic Empire
Classic Empire registered his fifth stakes winner on Saturday when Classicstateofmind (3c Classic Empire x Stormandaprayer, by Songandaprayer) went all the way in the Roar Stakes.
The colt jumped out on top in the five furlong turf race at Gulfstream Park and kept at least a length between himself and the rest of the field throughout the run. Emisael Jaramillo asked the colt for more in the stretch and Classicstateofmind responded, staying ahead of the favorite to win by a length with No Nay Never’s No Nay Franklin finishing third.
Classicstateofmind is trained by Francisco D’Angelo for JFG Thoroughbred and Maritza Weston with the colt winning three of his seven starts with two other top three finishes.
“The horse likes the front. If you’ve got a horse with speed, there’s nothing to worry about,” Jaramillo said. “The most important thing was breaking out of the gate – that was enough to win the race.”
A half-brother to Grade III-placed Harlands Thunder, Classicstateofmind is out of the stakes-placed and Grade I fourth Stormandaprayer. That mare is a daughter of Grade I winner Stormy Pick, who is the dam of two stakes performers and the dams of four stakes winners.
Classic Empire has the third most stakes winners of any second crop sire alongside Caravaggio and the second most stakes performers of any second crop sire with 10.
