Cocktail Moments Newest ‘Rising Star’ For Uncle Mo
Uncle Mo registered a ninth Thoroughbred Daily News Rising Star on Saturday when 2-year-old daughter Cocktail Moments (2f Uncle Mo x River Maid, by Where’s The Ring) scored a debut Maiden Special Weight victory by 9 ¼ lengths.
Nearly last early on in the seven furlong Churchill Downs race, the Kenny McPeek-trained filly was over eight lengths off the leader in the first half of the race. Corey Lanerie was happy to remain calm, taking his mount wide into the stretch and showing her best.
The field was no match with the Dixiana Farms runner romping away by 9 ¼ lengths with the third placed runner nearly 12 lengths behind.
Cocktail Moments was a $135,000 weanling purchase when sold by Taylor Made for breeder Mark Stansell and sold to Dixiana the following year for $190,000.
Cocktail Moments is out of Canadian champion and Grade II winner River Maid, who is one of six stakes performers for her own dam with her siblings including stakes winner Race For Gold.
Uncle Mo’s 2021 has seen him sire 143 winners, including 11 stakes winners and 26 stakes performers, led by Grade I winners Golden Pal and Yaupon.
