Corniche Colt Catches Eye at Keeneland January
A $185,000 short yearling by champion Corniche was snapped up by Top Notch Bloodstock to take the spot as the third most expensive colt of the Keeneland January Horses of All Ages Sale’s second session.
Consigned by Bluegrass Thoroughbred Services for Willow Oaks Stable, the colt is a grandson of dual Grade I winner Tout Charmant. Tout Charmant went on to become an influential broodmare as well with eight winners.
Those eight winners include Grade II winner and Grade I-placed Dancing House, stakes winner Too Charming, and Grade III placed Journeyman. Following in her dam’s footsteps, Dancing House produced the stakes placed Baladi with four Tout Charmant daughters producing stakes performers overall. That group includes the dam of Grade II winner New and Improved and stakes winner I’m Mom’s Favorite.
In all, there are 11 stakes performers on the page with five of those winning at least one a stakes race.
In addition to being the third most expensive colt of the second session, this colt was also the second most expensive yearling by a freshman sire in the sale. The most expensive yearling by a freshman was a filly by Golden Pal.
