Cupid Bullet Breezer Brings $440,000

Cupid’s daughter out of Callipepla became the sixth most expensive filly of the OBS Spring Sale of 2-Year-Olds in Training sale on Wednesday when bringing $440,000 late in the session.

Breezing in :20.2 to register the bullet for a quarter last week, the Q Bar J Thoroughbreds offered filly was hammered down to Ben McElroy as agent for M.V. Magnier. A half-sister to one winner from one to race out of the Yes It’s True mare Callipepla, the filly hails from the family of the Grade I Kentucky Derby winner Barbaro and Emma’s Encore with Grade III winner Annie Cake under her third dam.

“I’ve only bought five 2-year-olds this year and two of them are by Cupid. I love the Cupids,” McElroy said.

The filly followed a $100,000 purchase of a Cupid filly by Jeffrey Mackor II on behalf of Keith Johnston to kick off the OBS sale on Tuesday.

A Grade I winning son of Tapit who has seen 14 of his 17 juveniles sell for an average of $105,500 – 21-times his stud fee, Cupid stands for a bargain $5,000 this year.
