Cupid’s First Two-Year-Olds Impress At OBS
Cupid’s first 2-year-olds were smoking during the OBS March Sales of Two-Year-Olds In Training breeze show, led by his filly out of Miss Lederhosen breezing in :9.4 to share the breeze show bullet.
Selling as Hip 92 with McKathan Bros as agent, she is out of the stakes winning Miss Lederhosen. Bred by Mike Dowd, the February-born filly is a half-sister to two winners and from the family of multiple graded stakes winner Phantom On Tour among six stakes winners and eight stakes horses on her page.
“She is very fast, a beautiful mover & is a fancy looking, very pretty filly. We think she’s going to be exceptional at OBS,” said Chris Alexander of the filly.
Breezing in :10.0 for the second fastest time of the first session were a pair of Cupid 2-year-olds with Hip 124 the first to clock the time between the pair.
Offered by Golden Thoroughbreds Training And Sales, the William Graham-bred colt out of No Wonder was a $77,000 weanling at the 2019 Keeneland November Sale. The colt is a half-brother to stakes winner Muskoka Wonder and two other winners from three to race out of No Wonder. That mare is a half-sister to dual Grade I winner Weemissfrankie and the stakes-placed duo of Stop Smiling and Mia d’Oro. Another half-sister to No Wonder is the dam of stakes winner Piece of My Heart.
Thirty hips after the colt was a Cupid filly out of Playing For Fun. Consigned by Golden Rock Thoroughbreds as Hip 153, she was bred by Hugh Moore and Everett Dyer. A six-time winner, Playing For Fun is a granddaughter of stakes winner Saucy Deb, the dam of Grade I winner Devious Course and granddam of stakes winner Heirloom Diamond.
The :10.0 continued rolling in through the final day of the breeze show with Hip 560, one of the last to go through the ring at the sale, ending Cupid’s breeze show on a high note.
Consigned by Golden Rock Thoroughbreds, the filly out of Hot Ember was bred by Tailgate Racing, Suzanne Watkins, and Sarah Berkowitz. A three-time winner herself, Dixie Union’s Hot Ember has produced one winner from two to race and comes from the family of Grade II winner Regal Sanction and Grade III winner Nonie Dancer Ali. The filly is bred closely to Tapit’s graded stakes winning trio of Mohaymen, Enforceable, and Kingly.
Cupid’s Hip 152 from S G V Thoroughbreds is a half-sister to five winners out of the stakes winner Pious Ashley. Breezing in :10.1, the chestnut filly’s dam is a half-sister to Grade II winner Hello Liberty and the dam of Grade II winner Significant Form and Grade III winner Hay Dakota.
She was joined in the :10.1 club by a colt out of three-time winner Shelby’s Song. Breezing on the second day, the colt consigned by Bobby Dodd goes through the ring as Hip 205. Bred by Brad and Misty Grady, he is from the family of Grade III winner and Grade I Preakness Stakes third Senior investment and stakes winners Plaid and Sapphire Beads.
The two-session OBS March Sale kicks off on Tuesday at 11:00a.m. ET and continues on Wednesday.
