Promising filly Maybellene (2f Lookin at Lucky x Greathearted, by Giant’s Causeway) relished a step up in distance to score a tenacious victory at Del Mar on Sunday. Having her third start, the Bob Baffert trained filly knuckled down strongly in the straight to win the mile maiden by a head in a thrilling finish. A $140,000 Keeneland September yearling, Maybellene is from Greathearted, an unraced half-sister to Grade II winner Rossini and Grade III winner and sire Elusive Quality. Maybellene is the 13th first crop winner for Champion Two and Three Year Old Lookin at Lucky.
