Derby Runner-up for Lookin at Lucky
Quality colt Lookin at Lee (3c Lookin at Lucky x Langara Lass, by Langfuhr) ran the race of his life to finish second in the Grade I Kentucky Derby to Always Dreaming and the Grade I Preakness Stakes now looms on his radar.
Steve Asmussen reports his Lookin At Lee has come out of the Derby well.
“The Preakness is definitely a possibility for Lee. But, we'll give this race the respect it deserves and wait and see how he does when he gets back to the track,” said Asmussen.
Lookin At Lee, breaking from the sometimes troublesome rail post, snuck through an opening on the inside and closed well to finish a brave second beaten just two and three-quarter lengths.
“He always tries,” Asmussen added.
“[Jockey] Corey [Lanerie] gave him a great ride. He fits this horse really well. They have qualities you like, they don't give up and always try. He got his dream run, he got his chance, he ran well to the wire. We're very fortunate to have him.”
A $70,000 Keeneland September purchase, Lookin at Lee has won two races and placed five times. Three of those placings in Grade I races earning him over $800,000 in prizemoney.
