Don Julio (Caravaggio) Maiden Win At Tipperary

Don Julio Another Winner for Caravaggio

Caravaggio scored another winner on Thursday when Don Julio (2c Caravaggio x Remember Alexander, by Teofilo) broke his maiden at Tipperary in Ireland.

Racing on the turf over 7 ½ furlongs, the Atlantic Thoroughbreds-owned colt was part of a duo at the front of the midpack group as the leader opened multiple lengths on the field. In the final two furlongs, jockey Paddy Harnett had to pilot his mount around multiple horses but had clear running as they hit the final furlong.

Don Julio took over the lead inside the final sixteenth and won by a widening 1 ¾ lengths.

“It was very smooth today. He jumped well, they went quick and I had a nice pace to aim at. He went through with it lovely and is very genuine,” Harnett told Irishracing.com.

Don Julio is another winner for Caravaggio trained by Donnacha O’Brien for Atlantic Thoroughbred alongside Silver Surfer with O’Brien also training Caravaggio’s winner Elliptic.

A 110,000gns purchase bred by Mountarmstrong Stud, Don Julio is out of Group III winner Remember Alexander. That mare is a half-sister to Danehill Dancer’s Group II winner Memory. Memory is also the dam of Galileo’s Group II winner Call To Mind and Group III winner Recorder.

Now the sire of 16 winners, Caravaggio leads second-placed Practical Joke by five winners while also leading all North American freshmen by stakes winners, stakes horses, and graded stakes performers with his runners led by Group II winner Agartha.
