Donegal Bay Impressive Maiden Winner For Uncle Mo

Donegal Bay (2g Uncle Mo x Solo Piano, by Empire Maker) made easy work of a Gulfstream Park Maiden Special Weight on Saturday in his second start.

Racing over a mile on the dirt, the Todd Pletcher-trainee went straight to the lead and never looked back with Luis Saez aboard. The race favorite easily handled the pressure of a horse on his hip and Saez letting him extend as they entered the stretch.

The juvenile was happy to comply with a few reminders to win by 4½ lengths for Donegal Racing.

Bred by Juddmonte Farms, Donegal Bay is out of the winning Empire Maker mare Solo Piano. A daughter of dual Grade I winner and graded stakes producer Flute, Solo Piano is also the dam of Hong Kong stakes winner and Group III-placed Bear Slam among her five winners.

Donegal Bay continues his sire’s 2-year-old success with Uncle Mo’s two juvenile graded stakes winners this year the best of any stallion, led by Grade II Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint winner Golden Pal.
