El Bolzon Newest Stakes Winner for Lucky

El Bolzon (5h Lookin At Lucky x Belcunda, by Powerscourt) became the 58th worldwide stakes winner for Lookin At Lucky on Monday when securing a victory in the Listed Clasico Illustre Municipalidad de Santiago at Club Hipico in Chile.

Breaking on top in the 1 1/16 mile turf race, El Bolzon went straight to the lead where he set an even tempo throughout. Asked to extend in the stretch, El Bolzon easily outclassed the field with jockey Gonzalo Ulloa Perez giving him some light urging as the field tried to close in on him.

El Bolzon won by 1¼ lengths at the end for trainer Patricio Baeza and owner-breeder Haras Paso Nevado. This is far from El Bolzon’s only victory with the entire winning 12 of 24 starts with 17 on the board finishes, including three wins in five starts this year.

El Bolzon is one of two stakes winners for Powerscourt mare Belcunda, who is also the dam of his Group III-placed full brother Luckystrike.

This family has been a successful one with Coolmore stallions with Belcunda’s Scat Daddy half-brother El Bromista winning multiple Chilean championships and Group 1s during his 20 win career and Group III winner and Group I-placed Tu Brutus a full brother to that stallion.

Another of Belcunda’s half-siblings produced Chilean 2-Year-Old Champion Cumpleanos Feliz as well with Chilean Champion 3-Year-Old Bamburi under El Bolzon’s third dam.

A consistent value sire year in and year out, Lookin At Lucky’s 58 stakes winners include 13 Grade I winners and 36 graded stakes winners, led by five-time Grade I winner Accelerate and Grade I Kentucky Derby winner Country House.
