Elliptic Second Winner For Caravaggio

Elliptic (2f Caravaggio x Aqua De Vida, by Fastnet Rock) became freshman sire Caravaggio’s second winner on Tuesday when showing an outstanding turn of foot to break her maiden on debut at Tipperary.

Racing over 5 furlongs on the yielding turf, the Donnacha O’Brien-trained juvenile broke just a step slow to race in last down the Tipperary straight. Jockey Gavin Ryan let the filly get comfortable as they raced down the stand’s side at the back of a small group.

As they entered the final two furlongs, Ryan took her to the center of the track so Elliptic would have clear running room to show her best and that’s exactly what happened. The filly led her group in the final furlong and in the final sixteenth flew past the race leaders to win by 1 ½ lengths.

"We will step her up in class now, she'll have no problem getting six (furlongs) although she was green today more than flat out,” O’Brien told Irishracing.com. “She'll look quicker the next day with a bit of experience. You'd have to look at Royal Ascot. We'll have a look at the calendar and see if we give her another run before it but you'd be thinking she could be a Queen Mary or Albany filly."

Raced by breeder Annemarie O’Brien, the filly is out of a half-sister to Group III winner Hebridean and three other winners while she herself has seen all three of her runners at least place.

Caravaggio is having a top seven days with the multiple Group I winner siring a session topper at the Tattersalls Craven Breeze-Up Sale last week in addition to this winner. The stallion’s first winner, Tenebrism, also has Royal Ascot hopes after an impressive debut win in late March.
