Ellis Purchases Justify Colt at Karaka for NZ$600,000
It was another impressive result in the ring for Justify this week when his colt out of Repeat sold to Te Akau Racing’s David Ellis for NZ$600,000 (US$408,286) at the New Zealand Bloodstock Karaka Yearling Sale.
Offered by breeder The Oaks Stud, the colt’s two-time winning Darci Brahma dam Repeat is out of New Zealand champion Chant and a full sister to dual Group I winner Recite. The colt’s fourth dam is Irish Group III winner Chanzi.
This is the first foal for Repeat, who visited U S Navy Flag in New Zealand last year.
“He is an absolutely stunning colt. He’s gone into my colts syndicate, which has been very, very well received by our owners. I think he is a Karaka Million colt,” Ellis told ANZ Bloodstock News. “He is probably a little bit more precocious than, say, (2022 Karaka Million winner) Dynastic and it is really exciting to buy a colt by a Triple Crown winner at Karaka.
“He is from a really good two-year-old family, but they all train on to be good at three and four and that’s the sort of colt that we are trying to buy.”
Ellis also purchased a NZ$190,000 Justify filly at the sale by the undefeated Triple Crown winner
Justify also had a NZ$220,000 colt sold to G Knight in Waikato and a NZ$200,000 colt to TFI in Australia during Book 1 of the sale.
