Feelthebeat First Winner for Cupid
Grade 1-winning Tapit son Cupid got off the mark on Sunday when Feelthebeat (2c Cupid x Shelby’s Song, by Songandaprayer) won a Maiden Special Weight at Woodbine for Trinity Racing Stables.
The Norman McKnight-trained colt broke on top in the 5 ½ furlong race and quickly opened up a few lengths on the field. The colt started pulling away in the far turn and had enough left to keep that run going into the stretch.
His jockey had to give him some reminders in the final furlong but he had had enough left that even when a rival came running up his outside just before the wire, he held onto the lead. In the end, the Cupid son won by a nose.
Bred by Brad and Misty Grady, Feelthebeat is out of three-time winner Shelby’s Song. That mare is the dam of two winners from three to race and is a half-sister to seventeen-time winner and stakes-placed Ide Ball.
The Florida-bred Feelthebeat’s family also includes multiple stakes winner Plaid, who is the dam of Grade III winner Senior Investment and stakes winner General Downs.
A Grade 1 winner himself, Cupid has seen half of his runners hit the board from his first six runners.
