First Stakes Success for Saratoga Snacks
Talented colt Saratoga Snacks (3c Tale of the Cat x Near and Dear, by Red Ransom) has been in hot form this year and finally graduated to a stakes victory in the $73,500 Alex M Robb Stakes at Aqueduct on Boxing Day.
The Gary Sciacca trained colt led and controlled the race for Ramon Dominguez, cruising along within his comfort zone before accelerating to win the 1 and 1/16th mile contest by a length.
“He was pressed a little bit, but he doesn’t mind,” said Ramon Dominguez.
“He’s a horse who never seems to get tired. When the other horse [Socialsaul] was coming to him, I had a pretty good view on the big screen television [in the infield] and I knew I didn’t need to ask him.”
Saratoga Snacks has won five races and placed twice from seven starts earning $244,600 in prizemoney.
A half-brother by top class sire Tale of the Cat to stakes-placed Rajman, Saratoga Snacks is raced by August Dawn Farm and is from Near and Dear, whose dam is a half-sister to Grade I winner Without Feathers.
Saratoga Snacks is the 82nd stakes-winner worldwide for Tale of the Cat, who stands at a fee of $25,000 in 2013.
