First Stakes Win for Tale of Silence
A full brother to dual Grade I winner Tale of Ekati, Tale of Silence (4h Tale of the Cat x Silence Beauty, by Sunday Silence) has taken his time to win a stakes race, but got the job done when scoring a narrow win in the $150,000 Grade III Fort Marcy Stakes at Belmont.
A homebred for Charles Fipke prepared by Barclay Tagg, Tale of Silence had been stakes-placed three times previously and was fourth in the Grade I Saratoga H Allen Jerkens Stakes.
The stars aligned for Tale of Silence in this one mile contest and in a blanket four way finish, he got his nose in front on the line to claim the victory with Dylan Davis in the saddle.
"In the last couple jumps, I thought I had it," said Davis. "I did a little fist pump when I just got up. We just let him break out of there, let him come out there running across the chute and let him get comfortable. I just let him get into his own stride because it was hot up front. I knew he was comfortable. He was just going his own way. He got into stride, switched leads and picked it up a little bit. I was inching him along and just using him [in the turn]. Turning for home, there was a big gap down on the inside and he shot right through it. He paid it no mind. He knew what he had to do today."
Tale of Silence has the overall record of three wins and five placings from 15 starts with prizemoney in excess of $376,000.
The 106th stakes-winner for Tale of the Cat, Tale of Silence is the second stakes-winner for Silence Beauty, a half-sister to Champion Mare, Sky Beauty.
