Fusaichi Pegasus’s Awesome Fu Wins Fifth Consecutive Race
Fusaichi Pegasus’s Awesome Fu (6g Fusaichi Pegasus x Awesome Frances, by Awesome Again) started his year on the right note Thursday at Laurel Park when winning impressively to take his win streak to five straight victories.
Going off as the second choice in the one mile race, Awesome Fu broke on the rail and kept his spot when he went straight to the lead. The gelding opened up over a length on the field and no one was able to close the gap as he easily opened his margin in the stretch. He found a second wind in the final furlong and pulled away to win by 5 ¾ lengths in his 2020 debut for owner James Wolf.
The winner of $164,363 in earnings, Awesome Fu has won 10 of his 31 starts with eight other top three finishes in his career.
The gelding was bred by Echo Valley Horse Farm and is a half-brother to Listed winner El Cugat and Grade III placed Whyruawesome. From the family of Venezuelan Horse of the Year El De Chine and U.S Grade II winner Fanticola, the gelding’s dam visited Lookin At Lucky in 2019.
Kentucky Derby winner Fusaichi Pegasus is the sire of 77 stakes winners and 178 stakes horses worldwide, led by five Grade I winners.
