G2 Phoenix Winner Diamond Oops Newest Millionaire for Lookin At Lucky

The versatile Diamond Oops (5g Lookin At Lucky x Patriotic Viva, by Whywhywhy) followed up a Grade II win on turf last out with a victory in the Grade II Stoll Keenon Ogden Phoenix S. at Keeneland on Friday.

Racing over six furlongs on the dirt, Diamond Oops was never far off the lead when racing on the rail. The gelding allowed the top two to open up a few lengths on him as they entered their own personal duel, swinging into the stretch a few paths off the rail.

Diamond Oops had to run down the leader in the final sixteenth and looked to enjoy himself while doing it, pricking his ears as soon as he hit the front just before the wire for a three quarter of a length victory. He completed the second part of a quick Keeneland double for Lookin At Lucky after Luck Money won the race before on turf by three quarters of a length.

“It’s remarkable,” said jockey Florent Geroux. “He’s a tremendous horse, and he can even run longer if you ask him. He runs on any surface. It’s rare to run as good as he did last time on the turf at Churchill and now winning a major prep for the Breeders’ Cup Sprint.”

It was the seventh victory of Diamond Oops’ career with the gelding winning seven of sixteen starts with four other on the board finishes to cross the million dollar mark in earnings with stakes wins on both surfaces. The victory also secured him a spot in the Grade I Breeders’ Cup Sprint with connections eying both that race and the Turf Sprint.

Trained by Patrick Biancone for Diamond 100 Racing Club, Amy Dunne, D P Racing and Patrick L. Biancone Racing, Diamond Oops was bred by Kin Hui Racing Stables.

The gelding is one of two stakes winners for the stakes winning Patriotic Viva, who has produced four winners from five to race.
